Next Generation
Researchers
Several Networking Activities within the GEOLAB project are targeted at educating and training the Next Generation (NG) of researchers and engineers. These candidates will acquire the ability to better assess the added value of physical modelling and use the physical modelling tools in combination with data and numerical modelling for science and engineering.
2023 Next Generation of Researchers Workshop
The 2023 Next Generation of Researchers Training Workshop was held on November 30th and December 1st, 2023, at the Norwegian Geotechnical Institute (NGI) in Oslo, Norway. This event was organised under the Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Programme GEOLAB and hosted future researchers and engineers from various European countries and with diverse professional and educational backgrounds.
The event comprised six sessions with presentations by experienced researchers and professionals from partner institutions, including NGI, Deltares, ETH, Cambridge, TU Delft, Université Gustave Eiffel, TU Darmstadt. The workshop discussed a wide range of topics, from basic concepts relevant to physical modelling in geotechnics to the design and applications of multi-scale physical modelling for research on critical infrastructure, climate change, and others.
Santiago Quinteros guided a tour of the physical modelling facilities of NGI, and Per Sparrevik served as keynote speaker, sharing his extensive multidisciplinary experience in offshore geotechnical engineering, instrumentation and monitoring systems, and worldwide subsea operations.
